Fashion Design Challenge “Project Mickey” Calls for Mickey-inspired Fashion Designs with Malaysian Twist

In celebration of Mickey Mouse’s 90th anniversary, The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia, together with leading art institute The One Academy launched the nationwide fashion design challenge, “Project Mickey”. From now till 30 September 2018, the design challenge calls for aspiring fashion designers around Malaysia to submit their Mickey Mouse-inspired fashion sketches, paying tribute to quintessential Malaysian flavors and heritage.

The “Project Mickey is one of the lined-up celebrations to commemorate the milestone of Mickey Mouse, which aims to provide an avenue for rising fashion designers to create ready-to-wear pieces that reflect Mickey Mouse’s light-heartedness, fun and optimism with a uniquely Malaysian twist.

The top ten shortlisted designers will receive a cash allowance to produce their designs for the runway at a fashion show curated by the team at The One Academy in November 2018, where the winning designer will also be announced. The winner of this fashion design challenge will have their designs produced for retail and made available in stores nationwide by local brand GL Design as part of their ready-to-wear collection, and the opportunity to do an internship placement at The Walt Disney Company.

This fashion design challenge is open to all aspiring fashion designers in Malaysia aged 18 years old and above. Each entrant must submit two fashion sketches, a short write up describing their designs and inspiration and a signed copy of the Terms & Conditions form available for download at disney.my/project-mickey-fashion-design-challenge. Submissions are open from now till 30 September 2018.
