The Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) is Malaysia’s largest and oldest non-government environmental organisation that focuses to conserve Malaysia’s diverse habitats, protecting the nation’s natural heritage especially ecologically sensitive landscapes. Mangrove forests are classified as ecologically sensitive landscapes.

Mangroves present many intrinsic benefits to the ecosystem. They provide shelter and food for aquatic and marine animals, and migratory shorebirds, serve as a deterrent to storm surges, tides and currents, reduce water pollution and prevent soil erosion in coastal communities.

The Kuala Selangor Nature Park, is home to 150 species of birds, small animals, fish, amphibians, and reptiles such as Smooth Otters, Silvered Leaf-monkeys, Long-tailed Macaques and more. However, illegal mangrove extraction has put this habitat at risk, and reforestation is necessary.
