Japanese retail giant Uniqlo has recently announced the launch of its special collection of clothing that features traditional motifs of the Indonesian batik, a traditional Indonesian textile that was included on the UNESCO’s list of intangible Cultural Heritages of Humanity in 2009.
This is the second program in the UNIQLO Factory Worker Empowerment Project where a portion of the profit is allocated for the employees working in Fast Retailing’s affiliated factories in Indonesia.
Uniqlo’s Batik Motif Collection features traditional batik patterns that are deeply rooted in Indonesia culture and is faithfully repacked by Uniqlo to its LifeWear concept. The collection consists of eight new products bearing the traditional Indonesian batik motifs such as parang, sawat, buketan, kawung, arabesque, wadasan and truntum, which are light and comfortable material which is ideal for summer.
Do note that this collection will only be made available at selected stores in Malaysia and on Uniqlo’s official online store from June 10 onward.
