The boutique’s design draws inspiration from its birthplace, the Swiss Jura Mountains, with warm natural tones, tactile finishes, and understated elegance. At the Manufacture Wall, the five métiers of fine watchmaking — design, production, finishing, assembly, and ornamentation — come to life, offering a rare look into the mastery behind each creation.

It’s here, during an exclusive presentation, that the Reverso takes the spotlight.

The Story Behind the Reverso

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Jubiläumsuhr v1991

What does Reverso truly mean? Born on the polo fields of the 1930s, it was an elegant solution to a very practical problem. While travelling in India in 1930, Jaeger-LeCoultre dealer César de Trey met a polo-playing British officer who complained about watch crystals shattering during matches. Back in Switzerland, de Trey collaborated with case-maker Alfred Chauvot, who in 1931 patented a case that could slide in its frame and flip completely over, shielding the dial from impact. De Trey then paired this ingenious case with Jaeger-LeCoultre’s in-house movement, and the very first Reverso was brought to life at the maison’s workshop.

Launched during the height of the Art Deco era, the Reverso embraced clean geometric lines, balanced proportions, and understated elegance. The reverse side, originally designed for protection, became a canvas for engraving initials, crests, and intricate patterns — turning a technical innovation into a personalised expression of style. For over eight decades, the Reverso has remained an icon: precise, versatile, and timeless.

Back in the Pavilion KL boutique, other icons make their presence known — the adventurous Polaris, the graceful Rendez-Vous — each representing a different facet of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s mastery as the “Watchmaker of Watchmakers”.

The 1931 Cafe

The final stop is a sensory indulgence: the 1931 Café, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. Named for the Reverso’s birth year, this intimate space features creations by acclaimed Parisian chef Nina Métayer, inspired by the Vallée de Joux. Each pastry and beverage is layered with flavour, history, and artistry — a delicious reflection of the maison’s own approach to watchmaking.

Leaving the boutique, with coffee and desserts still lingering warmly on my palate, we realized this was far more than a mere visit to a timepiece boutique. It was an immersion into the intricate and exquisite world of watchmaking — where time is not only measured, but savoured, touched, and remembered.

The full boutique and café experience is now open for public reservation from 17th to 28th August via online-booking.jaeger-lecoultre.com.
