Matrix Professional Makes Its Malaysian Debut with a Creative Takeover

Who says a laundromat is just for laundry? On 30 October 2026, Randy’s Laundromat in Ara Damansara got a rather unexpected makeover, trading its usual wash-day routine for a vibrant celebration of professional haircare, creativity and self-expression.

The Malaysian debut of Matrix Professional, the global professional haircare brand under L’Oréal, which marked its arrival with the Matrix Creators Lab. In collaboration with Watsons Malaysia and TikTok, the launch brought together an immersive offline experience and online engagement in one lively activation.

More than 120 guests, including media, celebrities and content creators, gathered for an evening that gave the familiar laundromat setting a completely different personality.

A Laundromat Gets a Haircare Makeover

Forget the usual laundry-day setting. The venue was transformed into a playful, high-energy space filled with vibrant neon signs, interactive installations and plenty of content-worthy corners.

From a laundromat-inspired photo opportunity and product discovery zone to a UV tattoo bar and styling studio, every station offered a different way to experience the Matrix universe.

It was less about simply introducing a new haircare brand and more about getting guests involved. Whether experimenting with their looks, personalising accessories or creating social media content, there was something to explore around every corner.

The Charm Your Way station invited guests to customise their own pouches with colourful charms and accessories, while Snap Your Slay Moment provided the perfect backdrop for a camera-ready pose. Those looking to switch up their look could also head to the Styling Studio, where hair experts shared styling tips and techniques.

For something a little more playful, the Matrix x KATSEYE-inspired dance challenge put guests’ moves to the test through a motion-tracking game featuring an on-screen hydration meter.

Food For Soft Takes Centre Stage

Beyond the lively activities, the heart of the launch was, naturally, Matrix Professional’s haircare collection.

Taking centre stage was Food For Soft, the brand’s hydration-focused range formulated with avocado oil and hyaluronic acid. Designed for dry hair, the collection focuses on delivering hydration while leaving hair feeling softer and looking shinier.

The range promises up to 7x more hydration, 2x healthier shine and 72 hours of intense softness, alongside heat protection of up to 230°C.

For anyone whose hair tends to feel dry, rough or difficult to manage, hydration is an essential part of a good haircare routine. Food For Soft offers a dedicated approach to addressing these concerns, making it an interesting range to discover for those looking to give their hair some extra care.

The collection also reflects Matrix’s wider approach to professional haircare: offering targeted solutions that cater to different hair needs and textures.

From Professional Haircare to Your Everyday Routine

What makes Matrix’s Malaysian arrival particularly interesting is its focus on making professional haircare more accessible beyond the salon environment.

Founded in 1980 by Arnie and Sydell Miller, Matrix has built its reputation around professional-grade haircare, stylist empowerment and inclusivity. Guided by its philosophy, “All Hair Types. All Humans.”, the brand offers solutions for different hair types and textures.

Now available to Malaysian consumers through Watsons, Shopee and its official TikTok Shop, discovering professional haircare becomes a more convenient part of everyday shopping.

The launch also marked Matrix’s TikTok Shop Grand Opening, with Food For Soft and Mega Sleek featured on the platform. Guests and online audiences could continue exploring the collections through livestreams on the Watsons and Matrix TikTok channels.

Jenn Chia Makes Her DJ Debut

Adding another memorable moment to the evening was Malaysian personality Jenn Chia, who stepped behind the decks for her first-ever DJ set.

Known for her creative pursuits, Jenn took the opportunity to explore a new side of herself, having started DJ lessons and practised with friends and family before making her debut at the event.

For her, the experience was about embracing the unfamiliar and giving herself permission to be a beginner again.

“Matrix didn’t just give me a platform to perform. They gave me the opportunity to share a side of myself that even I hadn’t seen in a long time,” she shared.

Her appearance was a fitting reflection of the Creators Lab’s spirit: trying something different, expressing individuality and stepping outside one’s comfort zone.

A New Chapter for Matrix in Malaysia

With its first Malaysian launch, Matrix Professional is bringing more than another name to the local beauty scene. Its arrival signals a push towards making professional haircare more accessible, while connecting with a younger, digitally engaged generation through creativity and community.

By turning an ordinary laundromat into an interactive haircare playground, Matrix certainly gave its Malaysian debut a distinctive twist.

And perhaps that is the real takeaway from the evening: haircare does not have to feel like another everyday chore. With the right products, a little experimentation and room for self-expression, even wash day can take on a fresh new energy.
