With the opening of NGAM in 1 Utama Shopping Centre, shoppers can now enjoy delicious Thai street food in the shopping mall.

NGAM is rather a small Thai serving restaurant located at Lot S.118 of the shopping centre. NGAM, when translated into Thai language, means beautiful and colourful, which underpins the whole concept of their restaurant.

Helmed by husband and wife team, Leonard and Patty, NGAM is as colourful as its logo. The décor is in the style of a Thai-style street-like ambience with ceiling decorated with colourful bowls. The restaurant uses splashes of colours on their decoration, on the walls, utensils, and tiffins.

NGAM’s dishes are mostly single portion offerings, price range from RM 8 to RM 19, somewhat fair in a shopping mall setting. Their specialities are noodles and plates of rice.

To start the day, we ordered their Thai Iced Tea and Green Tea (RM 8). Besides that we also tried their Fish Cake (RM 12) and Spring Roll (RM 8), the perfect appetiser to munch on while waiting for our main course to arrive. The Fish Cake was okay, though it would be great if they were thicker and juicier.

Crispy Shrimp Omelette, Thai Sausage and Tom Yum Soup (RM 15) and Garlic Chicken with Rice & Fried Egg (RM 15) were very decent options, both tasted delicious and absolutely flavourful.

For noodle fanatics, their Tom Yam noodle (RM 14) is very creamy and thick, packed a punch of flavour from lemongrass and herbs, very aromatic while not overly spicy.

The Tom Yam certainly worth the hype as we have previously heard about praises of their Tom Yam when the restaurant was located in Bangsar Baru.

Thai cuisine scene in Malaysia has evolved throughout the years. Back then, Thai food means Tom Yam and maybe a few classic Thai dishes such as pineapple fried rice and beef noodle soup. We are certainly happy to see that Thai street food eateries are slowly mushrooming and becoming so popular.

If you are at 1Utama, give this place a try. We like the fact that the menu is not complicated, honest and straightforward, yet fill with delicious comfort food.
