Few weeks ago, we did an unboxing of the new Samsung Galaxy A33 5G which has just been launched in Malaysia last month (read here). Today, we are going to talk about the specs and features, as well as the performance of this new Samsung Galaxy A series phone.

The Samsung Galaxy A33 5G was launched together with another higher model of Galaxy A series, the Galaxy A53 5G, which both are marketed as the brand’s mid-range smartphones with good design, specs and quality camera – offering a holistic mobile experience at a great value. Although the Galaxy A33 5G is lower model, yet it has almost the same specs and look as the Galaxy A53 5G, except for the slight differences in the display, front camera spec and internal storage size. The Galaxy A33 5G is also a huge upgrade over its predecessor – last year’s Galaxy A32 5G, in terms of display, processing power and camera performance.

A mid-range 5G phone with a price under RM1,500, let’s see what this new Galaxy A33 5G phone is going to offer.

Design & Display

The device is sleek and lightweight. With a body measuring 74.0mm x 159.7mm and thickness of 8.1mm, the refreshingly sleek and smooth Galaxy A33 5G is weighing at only 186g – makes it just nice to hold in your palm but may be a bit too large to fit in your pocket.

The device comes with a matte finish flesh with a polished plastic side frame, and its ambient edge design seamlessly blends the camera with the body of the phone. On the right edge of the device, you’ve got the power button and volume rocker; and a dual-card slot with support for one nano SIM cards and one MicroSD card on the top side of the device. The speaker grille and USB Type-C port are on the bottom side – without the 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Galaxy A33 5G has a stunning 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate for a better viewing and selfie experience. The 6.4-inch screen is broken up by a tiny teardrop notch at the top for the front camera. Featuring the tough Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and IP67 water and dust resistance, it is a higher-resistance device with increased durability.

In terms of colour choices, the device is available in Awesome Peach, Awesome White, Awesome Blue and Awesome Black  – which each has its own unique characteristics. We like the Awesome Blue the most as it gives a subtle yet fresh visual appeal.

Camera

The Galaxy A33 5G is equipped with an AI-powered quad-camera system features a main 48MP OIS camera with ultra-wide 8MP, macro 5MP and depth 2MP camera, and an 13MP front camera.

The 48MP main camera captures stunning photos and videos with crisp details and vibrant colours during the daytime – even in low light, while the 13MP front camera delivers decent selfies and clear video call experiences. Additionally, thanks to the Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) system and an ultra wide f/2.2 aperture, the Samsung Galaxy A33 5G performs fairly well at night too.
