Putting on makeup can be a struggle if you have oily skin problem. The makeup melts off, foundation oxidizes easily, clogs pores, and more. To help you through the path towards shine-free skin, here we have summarised five makeup tips that not only averts the shine but also helps in controlling oil.

1. Prime your skin first. Using a makeup primer helps your makeup last all day as primer serves as a protective layer for your skin and foundation. Gently apply primer all over your face, especially your oiliest areas (think: the T-zone).

2. Stay away from concealer on your eyelids. You can use a little foundation on the lids first, but it’s advised to go with a primer specifically formulated to help absorbing crease-causing oils throughout the day.

3. Use a loose powder/translucent powder for oil control. Speaking of powder, avoid using powders that give shimmer as that would make your face look more greasy. Instead, opt for a matte, loose translucent powders as this sort of powder soaks up more oil and sets your foundation.

4. Look for “long wear”.  Natural oils can cause your makeup to smear or smudge. That’s a reason why you should stick to products that are waterproof, water resistant, and/or long wear. Same goes to your foundation, the formula is also crucial. Opt for formulas that are long-wearing and oil-free.

5. Blotting paper is a must. When your face gets shiny during the day, use a blotting paper for touching up without disturbing your makeup. These sheets help absorb all excess oil to control shine and save you from having to rush into the washroom frequently.
