Tried & Tested: SweetPeachier Plus IPL Laser Hair Removal Handset

Last month, we featured a local beauty device brand, SweetPeachier, which carries the hand-held IPL devices for at-home hair removal. Out of curiosity, we requested a unit of SweetPeachier Plus IPL Laser Hair Removal Handset for testing to see if it’s as good as it claimed to be!

We approached the brand by the end of May and they were kind enough to send us a set right after a week during the first week of the FMCO. The set consists of the IPL Laser Hair Removal Handset together with a power adapter and a user manual. When we first got our hands on the handset, we fell in love with its sleek design and streamlined body. It’s slightly larger than we expected (about full palm size) – but still lightweight and handy for portable use.

Some of you may not know what is IPL and what does it stand for. We googled and found the explanation:

What is IPL?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It’s a type of light therapy used to treat unwanted hair. It works by targeting a certain colour in your skin, and the higher the contrast between your skin and hair colour, the better, which is why it is often said to be most effective on those with light skin and dark hair.

When the skin is heated, it destroys the hair follicle to prevent the hair from growing again, without burning the skin.

After reading the above explanation, the second thing that comes to your mind is probably “is it safe to use?”. According to Medical News Today, IPL is safe for most people but is not suitable for everyone. For example, pregnant women and people who are on blood thinners should avoid IPL. Furthermore, like other IPL devices, the IPL Laser Hair Removal Handset also isn’t safe for darker skin tones as it may get confused to differentiate between hair and skin.

As for the effectiveness in removing hair, according to SweetPeachier, their IPL Laser Hair Removal Handset offers very long term results but not permanent results. It is recommended to first use the handset once a week for 8-12 weeks, then once a month every 2-3 months to achieve optimum results.

The IPL Laser Hair Removal Handset can be used on whole body, including your face and even your bikini/brazilian, but you need to shave the area before using the handset to allow the intense pulsated light to concentrate on the hair root.

The IPL Laser Hair Removal Handset features ‘stamp and flash’ mode.

For this review, we let our colleague, Sue to test the IPL Laser Hair Removal Handset on her legs, as she has long leg hairs that need to be shaved twice a week. The handset has 5 levels of intensity, you can adjust the most appropriate levels for different skin areas. During her first session, she was using the handset on level 2 of intensity for safety consideration. After making sure that her skin did not react to the treatment, she adjusted it to level 3 and 4 for the following sessions. She took about 20-30 minutes to complete the whole two legs for each session.

The IPL Laser Hair Removal Handset features ‘stamp and flash’ mode, where allows you to slowly stamp the handset across the treatment area while flashing. Avoid flashing the same spot more than three times, and avoid direct eye contact with the flash light.

As of the date of this article, Sue has been using the handset for four times, once a week, and so far she’s satisfied with the result. She explained that normally her hair will be growing the next 2-3 days after shaving or waxing, but with the IPL Laser Hair Removal Handsetshe doesn’t see hair coming back for almost a week and when it does it’s very sparse.

In summary, this IPL Laser Hair Removal Handset is a handy device that helps you to enjoy a painless and easy hair removal, at the comfort of your own home. The only slight inconvenience to this handset is that it’s not cordless, but it works well overall.
