Situated at one of the most busy streets in Kuala Lumpur, Chocha Foodstore is a Asian-Chinese twist restaurant opened by a design firm. Chocha, when translated into Hakka, means sit and drink tea, which underpins the whole concept of their restaurant.

chocha-pamper-my-6chocha-pamper-my-7Nested in an old shop lot, the main attraction of this place would be its raw vintage charm and décor of wooden chairs, oak wood table, cluster of antique glass lamps, which gives the restaurant a very old school, vintage-ish yet tranquil feel, allowing you to sit back and think about the gold days.

We were first served Cincalok fried chicken (RM 25) with fermented shrimp sauce, pineapple and tomatoes salsa and tomato chutney. The sauce complements the crispy meat and helps intensify its flavour; an ideal side dish for your alcoholic beverage, but tea would have been equally as good.

chocha-pamper-my-12Chinese pesto flat noodle (RM 20) is one of the dishes on the menu where you can get the best of Western and Asian cuisine into one bowl. The hand-pulled noodles are combined with rich ulam pesto, charred capsicums, semi-dried tomatoes, peanuts and sesame seeds. The noodles were chewy and tasty, the pesto sauce had an incredibly smooth flavour, not too creamy and greasy.

chocha-pamper-my-11Cucumber salad (RM 15) was served with kyuri cucumber, green apple, semi-dried tomato and lettuce with cumin vinaigrette. This refreshing salad has a very nice texture to munch on, suitable for vegetarians as well.

chocha-pamper-my-13Curryflower (RM 15) came with crumbled cauliflower, shallot, curry leaves, and kesom. While the dish is not very spicy, it has a very good aroma and taste to it.

chocha-pamper-my-14Overall it was quite an interesting dining experience. If you are into photography, you should come to Chocha at least once. We were told that many photographers came to this place for shooting, thanks to the décor. Food wise, I wouldn’t hesitate to return for a good and comfortable afternoon snack. Thanks to Queeny for hosting us.
