Mama G initiates Hung Innovation Awards to encourage young generation’s creativity and passion

Gillian Hung, or better known as “Mama G”, the fashion guru for local fashion industry, has initiated a unique competition that provides the opportunity for the young generation to showcase their passion and creativity, and creating business opportunities at the same time.

Open to Malaysians and foreigners between 18 to 30 years old, the competition, HUNG INNOVATION AWARDS, aims to put Malaysia’s fashion and beauty industry as a vehicle on the world stage to push both segments to the next level. Ultimately, it is a unique unison of Fashion, Hair, Beauty & Catwalk muses coming as one.

“With this competition, I hope to be able to work with young generation designers and expose them to the realities of the fashion business,” said Gillian Hung.

Making its grand debut this year, the HUNG INNOVATION AWARDS was conceived as a tribute to late fashion icon Sonny San, The Eclipse founder, who passed away in 2016, was an influential mentor to Hung and many other designers.

This year, the platform is powered by Samsung Malaysia, partnering with Malaysia Airlines, Kevin Murphy, the Glam Makeup Academy and M Resort & Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

The partnership with Kevin Murphy sees an introduction of 10 aspiring Hairstylists and 10 aspiring Makeup Artists from the Glam Makeup Academy. This collaboration will enable the young designers to not just focus solely on their design but to work closely with the hairstylist and makeup artist to create a head-to-toe look.

These 10 teams will be competing with a given design direction. Two outfits will be inspired by Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 while one outfit will be created using Malaysia Airlines sustainability fabrics.

This will prove to be a good exercise for the young generation to create with sustainability fashion in mind and technology to enhance and propel one’s winning design into the future.
