For watch enthusiasts, ceramic has become a holy grail material, prized for its exceptional scratch resistance and lightweight properties. Bell & Ross, a brand with deep roots in aviation and known for its instrument-inspired designs, takes this material a step further by incorporating it into their urban BR 05 line for the very first time.

The choice of ceramic is a natural fit for Bell & Ross. This high-tech material mirrors the robustness and functionality of aircraft cockpits, a constant source of inspiration for the brand. Working with ceramic, however, is no easy feat. The sintering process, which vitrifies the material at high temperatures, demands meticulous precision to achieve a homogenous and robust final product. Bell & Ross’ expertise, honed from their experience with ceramic watches like the 2011 BR 01 Ceramic, shines through in these new BR 05 models.

The charisma of these black ceramic BR 05 models goes beyond their technical prowess. Mass-dyed throughout, the ceramic boasts a consistent, deep black shine that’s impervious to scratches. The BR 05 Black Ceramic and BR 05 Skeleton Black Ceramic showcase a sleek satin polish, while the BR 05 Skeleton Black Lum Ceramic takes a sportier approach with a matte sandblasted finish, creating an almost ephemeral effect.

For Bell & Ross, the colour black isn’t just an aesthetic decision but a functional one. Often seen on aircraft instrument panels, black pairs beautifully with the white hands and indices found on these BR 05 models, reinforcing the brand’s signature instrument watch aesthetic.

Each of the three ceramic BR 05 models features a sapphire crystal case back, revealing the intricate mechanics of the automatic BR-CAL.321-1 caliber with its impressive 54-hour power reserve.

To counter the inherent slimming effect of black, Bell & Ross has subtly increased the case size of these BR 05 models to 41mm. This ensures the watches retain their powerful and commanding presence on the wrist.

The BR 05 collection is known for its signature rounded square design, and these new ceramic models stay true to that heritage. The integrated bracelet seamlessly blends into the case, creating a sleek and modern silhouette. As Bruno Belamich, Creative Director and co-founder of Bell & Ross, emphasises, “This type of design has been an industry benchmark since the ’70s; when transposed to Bell & Ross, we get a watch with a shape that is at once compact, harmonious and ergonomic.”

This launch underscores Bell & Ross’ dedication to innovation. By seamlessly blending technical expertise with undeniably captivating design, they’ve crafted a standout addition to the urban watch scene.
