Looking for a fresh cultural experience in Kuala Lumpur? The Gardens Mall is turning the spotlight on Malaysian heritage with Exploring Local Art 4.0, a striking new exhibition that asks: What if batik lived beyond fabric?
Running from 26 August to 20 September 2026, the immersive showcase transforms the mall’s South and North Palm into a contemporary playground of light, sound, art and technology. Created with homegrown label Kapten Batik and multidisciplinary artist Jun Ong, the experience brings the traditional batik-making process to life through five monumental installations—Forge, Imprint, Spectrum, Melt and Canopy.
The journey continues with Ascend and Gather, where nostalgic Malaysian games such as Dam Ular and Batu Serembanare reimagined as interactive installations. At Echoes, visitors can step into a ten-layer fabric tunnel accompanied by an atmospheric original soundtrack by award-winning artist Kamal Sabran.
Beyond the exhibition, visitors can join Perler Beads and Batu Seremban workshops, take part in a shadow-themed social media contest, and redeem a batik-inspired automatic foldable umbrella with qualifying purchases.
