Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and to each their own, right? But did you know there are research-proven things you can do that actually make yourself more attractive? There have been studies done on men and women to understand what the other sex finds attractive and we’re here to share them with you.

For Women

1. Heels for added height. According to this study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, not only were heels and height found to be directly proportional to a woman’s attractiveness to men, but men were increasingly likely to exhibit helpful behavior and to spontaneously approach a woman the higher her heels were.

2. The LBD. It’s our secret little weapon and you’ll be happy to know that black exudes confidence, sexiness, and intelligence to the other gender.

3. Bare shoulders. This is interesting. Researchers at the University of New South Wales found that men are equally attracted to women’s shoulders and arms. So don’t hesitate with that off-the-shoulder top!

4. Red. The song Lady in Red was made for a reason and this colour of passion, love, and romance is one of men’s favorites!

5. An hour-glass figure. For those of us who are lanky or skinny, this might not be such great news. But for those who are busty and blessed with those natural curves, you’ll be happy to know it attracts men quicker and keeps their gaze on you longer.

6. Lipstick. Lipstick is an instant pick-me-up on those days you just don’t feel like wearing much makeup. And it works on men too, red in particular tends to have a favorable response from the men but they also find women who are slightly made up to be more attractive, competent and trustworthy.

For Men

1. Shave excess hair. A study conducted in New Zealand and California found that women gave higher ratings to men with less hair. Ratings for attractiveness tended to decrease as the amount of chest and abdominal hair increased.

2. Men should brood more. In a split second, women will pick a broody looking men over one who smiles too often. Don’t ask us why, but it works.

3. Create a V-shape. Women are naturally more attracted to men who have broader shoulders and a slim waist line. Wear clothing that helps accentuate your natural V-shape.

4. Go easy on the cologne. While we can’t resist a man who smells good, don’t go overboard and cause us to choke upon a single whiff. We get it, musky is good but in small doses.

For Men and Women

1. White teeth. Pearly white teeth and a good set of healthy gums indicates good health and genes. It’s almost like a peacock tail, and with a single smile you’re able to capture attention.

2. Healthy skin. When your skin glows and has a healthy hue, this is perceived as more attractive. Eat your fruits and veggies!

3. Avoid bad breath! Nothing like it to repel people away from you. Good oral hygiene is key in making yourself more attractive.
