The local handmade scene has been making a comeback for a while especially in homemade beauty products. And as fellow supporters of the support local scene, we’ve been finishing bars of soaps from various local soap artisans one, for curiosity and two, for a more back-to-basic approach to our skincare.

We have narrowed down to six of our favourite soaps here that not only smells divine but they’re vegan, cruelty-free, alcohol-free, parabens-free, SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate)-free, and no artificial fragrance too. It’s all natural and handmade with loads of love which is why we love them.

1. Bora-Bora soap from The Bubble Lab

Made from lavender, mandarin orange, patchouli and ylang-ylang, Bora-Bora is part of the floral collection of handmade soaps from The Bubble Lab. The burst of citrus scent from the mandarin orange makes this an invigorating soap but after that, the lavender kicks in and makes you to relax. Perfect to shower with before bedtime, we say!

2. Fried Egg Soap from Wunderbath Co

We’re fans of novelty gifts and this fried egg soap is one to start your day! Thankfully it doesn’t come with the savoury smell. In fact, it has a tropical fruit scent that’ll keep you smelling fresh and your skin moisturized. It’s also a great party trick to unsuspecting victims.

3. Teselli Soap from Kindersoaps

Teselli means ‘solace’ in the Turkish language which is what we felt after showering with it. Sensitive and eczema skin would love this soap because it’s made with frankincense, myrrh and tamanu essential oils which are known for their healing properties and calming mellow scent. It helps to stop the itching and can be used on your face too.

4. Guinness Stout with Organic Raw Honey Soap from Claire Organics

This creamy soap is moisturizing, soothing, and has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antibacterial properties, great for acne-prone and sensitive skin. You can also use this soap to wash your hair once a week to deep clean your scalp and hair from excess hair products. It’ll make your hair voluminous too!

Lather your body with this luxurious, conditioning soap made from dark cherries, shea butter and red clay for softer and moisturized skin. The bag that it comes in makes a good foaming mitt and a drying bag for your soap so it’ll last longer.

Lavender’s calming properties are nothing new but with the addition of evening primrose oil which helps to soothe itchiness, inflammations, and acne, this soap is a powerhouse to combat bacne too. Since it’s made with 72% olive oil, it may not lather as much as other soaps but it cleanses your skin gently so it’s great for all skin types.
