CNN has chosen Penang as one of the world’s top tourist spots for 2017.

The Pearl of the Orient is placed second in the list of “17 best places to visit in 2017” in CNN. The list was put together after consultation with CNN experts from around the world about their favourite travel destinations.

“An increase in visitors to Malaysian treasures such as Khoo Kongsi temple in Penang Island, is expected this year, just as the country celebrates its 60th birthday,” CNN reported

“The Malaysia island of Penang is arguably one of Asia’s best street food destinations.  It offers a mix of traditional Malay, Chinese and Indian dishes, as well as fusion cuisines such as Baba Nyonya, or Peranakan, which incorporates regional ingredients and Chinese and Malay cooking methods,” CNN reported.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng wrote a Facebook post in regards to this honour. He said, “Penang has won yet another accolades. This time, it is by the prestigious CNN Travel website in an article dated Jan 6, 2017. Penang is named as the second best places to visit in 2017. Penang is ‘one of Asia’s best street food destinations.”

Prince Edward Island in Canada placed first in the list, with Penang came in second and Colombia in third. Check out the winners list here.
