The Spring/Summer women’s shoe trends 2017 are as interesting as the line-up that we had been seeing over the past couple of months before fashion weeks.

From the different looks that were showcased down those runways in the four capitals of fashion – London, Milan, Paris, and New York, designers seemed to take a more casual approach this year. Sandals and dress shoes reinterpreted into less-formal but more-fun finished. Also, there are lots of quirky combinations such as sandals and boots with socks.

Without further ado, here are five women’s shoe trends for spring and summer this year.

1. Comfort chic evening sandals

First made famous by adidas, these sandals (aka slides) are like an upgraded version of Flip-flops given a luxurious take in materials such as leather. Supermodels like the Hadid sisters have been spotted rocking this trend, proving that this is must have of the moment. Given the comfy-chic nature of these shoes and how popular athleisure currently in the fashion scene, it’s no surprise to see this trend to last a particularly long time. We get to see floral and sequins designs appear many times throughout the fashion week, in particularly Dolce & Gabbana, Miu Miu, as well as Prada.

2. Platforms

The platform is exactly what our summer outfits need this season. This year we notice that many platforms were further enhanced with thicker and taller heels. In particular, Marc Jacobs and Balenciaga have showcased their astonishing work in their adaption of this never dying shoe style.

3. Combining two different materials – socks boots

Socks remain a steady motif for SS17. In this case, the socks boots trend is more comfort-focused, rather than being aesthetic. Some combinations are indeed a beautiful mess like Balenciaga and Celine.

4. Sandals and socks

Get those creative juices flowing by mixing socks and sandals. The socks or any synthetic sock-like material can be both the same or different shade with your sandal. If you still doubting to try this trend, we suggest that you familiarise yourself with examples from the Olsen twins, Rita Ora, Fearne Cotton.

5. Ankle strap sandals

Shoes with straps also enjoy great popularity. These seemingly redundant straps are now an additional decoration for the shoes. In today’s fashion scene we are no longer stranger to shoes that have ten to 20 straps. These sandals are authentic yet completely modern, they cover your skin but show it off sophisticated. Saint Laurent and Valentino give us some intriguing designs to choose from.
