Hailey Baldwin’s NYFW Prep Detox, Is It Worth The Hype?

Hailey Baldwin’s NYFW Prep Detox

Hailey Baldwin has always been on the radar for her modeling gigs and close relationships with her celebrity pals such as Justin Bieber and Kylie Jenner. But recently, she’s making headlines again, this time for the current detox program that she’s following to prepare herself for the upcoming shows during New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

Who wouldn’t want to know how she got such a ripped, slim bod like that!

The 19-year-old told an interviewer that she’s following a Metabolic Detox program to reset her body before the hecticness of NYFW begins. But she’s also added that getting more sleep is also one of the most important parts of her preparation which we strongly agree on! We’re putting a disclaimer that we’re not encouraging everyone to do this detox, we’re sharing more details on what’s it all about.

Detoxing trends have always been a controversial topic between researchers and the like but when it’s hyped up, more people would join in on the trend in hopes of getting their dream bod or better health.

So what is Metabolic Detox?

It’s a 10 days program where it engages the metabolic process of removing toxins by converting the toxin into an inert, water-soluble form for excretion. The toxins could come from pollution, processed food, excess hormones, and some of your body’s biological processes, from the body. The detoxification process occurs throughout the body, with the liver being the main detoxifying organ, followed by your kidneys.[1]

Our bodies are exposed to toxins on a daily basis and one way to tell if you might have too much toxin buildup is if you have acne, rashes, headaches, fatigue, muscle weakness, fertility issues, memory loss, and depressed immune function. Also, low-level, long-term toxic exposure has been linked to chronic conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia syndrome, leukemia, and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. [2]

Hence in some ways, the metabolic detox might help after all. According to Dr. Jeffrey Bland, these are the characteristics which should be included for a safe metabolic detoxification program:

  • Organic fresh vegetables and fruits
  • Sufficient calories and nutrient intake to prevent undernutrition
  • Foods and supplements that are free of common food allergens such as gluten (from grains) and casein (from dairy)
  • Eliminating stimulants, synthetic chemicals, alcohol, tobacco products and modified food ingredients (basically processed foods)
  • Drink adequate amounts of water (6-8 glasses per day)
  • Moderate amounts of exercise
  • Sufficient amount of fiber to promote proper bowel function and prevent constipation
  • A fair (but not excessive) amount of protein, go for more vegetable protein
  • Intake of specific nutrients that have been found to support proper detoxification function, including epigallocatechin gallate from green tea, glucosinolates from cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and cabbage), resveratrol from grapes and peanut skins, isoflavones from soy, and polyphenols and anthocyanidins from berries. (Most would take these nutrients through a shake or supplement.)
  • Sufficient sleep.

Though we’re a little skeptical about taking supplements that we can’t really pronounce, the rest of the detox seems alright for someone who might be gluten-free or lactose-intolerant. But staying consistent for 10 days straight could be a challenge and a sudden change in your diet can give a shock to your body. Therefore, it’s best to consult an authorized nutritionist, dietician or doctor, before undertaking any detox programs.
