From\u00a0Bruno Mars’ big win to Lady Gaga’s jaw-dropping appearance at the red carpet, the 60th Annual Grammy Awards\u00a0did not disappoint. Sweeping off\u00a0album, record and song of the year awards, Mars’ dominated the top categories while\u00a0Kendrick Lamar’s “DAMN” proved to be of wild success as he brought home multiple awards through\u00a0his fourth\u00a0album.<\/p>\n

While Alessia Cara’s\u00a0best new artist win was\u00a0met with backlash, the breakthrough artist defended her first Grammy win on Instagram by saying: “To address the apparent backlash regarding winning something I had no control over: I didn\u2019t log onto grammy.com and submit myself.”<\/p>\n

“That\u2019s not how it works. I didn\u2019t ask to be submitted either because there are other artists that deserve the acknowledgment. But I was nominated and won and I am not going to be upset about something I\u2019ve wanted since I was a kid, not to mention have worked really hard for.”<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m aware that my music wasn\u2019t released yesterday, I\u2019m aware that, yes, my music has become fairly popular in the last year,\u201d Cara added. “But I\u2019m trying very hard to use the platform I\u2019ve been given talk about these things and bring light to issues that aren\u2019t fair, all while trying to make the most of the weird, amazing success I\u2019ve been lucky enough to have.\u201d In all fairness,\u00a0we honestly think Alessia earned her\u00a0well-deserved spotlight.<\/p>\n
