A lot of us are washing our bras too often, a lot of us are washing\u00a0them far less frequently than they should. It’s a no brainer that undergarments should be washed after each use, but how often should you really wash your bra?<\/p>\n

The truth is, the frequency with which you should wash your bra depends on how many times it’s been worn.<\/p>\n

Joshua Zeichner, M.D., a New York\u2013based dermatologist answered the age-old question for BuzzFeed Life<\/a>.\u00a0He\u00a0says that washing bras\u00a0after\u00a0two to three wears is ideal. “If you’re someone who sweats minimally and fall on the lazy size of the laundry spectrum, you can stretch it to every five wears at the very max.”<\/p>\n

As we all know, bra covers our intimate area.\u00a0“Fabrics that are closer to the body are exposed to more sweat, oil, dirt, and bacteria, and thus need to be washed more frequently,” Zeichner continues.<\/p>\n

Another factor is the type of bras you’re wearing. Zeichner explains “If you\u2019re wearing a sports bra and you\u2019re exercising and generating a lot of sweat, then that bra should be washed before you wear it the next time.” Which means it’s a must to wash your sports bra after every single workout even if you didn’t sweat ‘a lot’.<\/p>\n

Also your cup size can even play a role too. The larger your breasts, the more you accumulate sweat, oil, and dirt,\u00a0which means you might need to wash your bra more often.<\/p>\n

Washing your bra too often can do more harm than good. “Over-washing can damage the elasticity, which is essential for providing the proper support,” says Lexie Sachs, product analyst in the Textiles Lab at the Good Housekeeping Institute<\/a>.<\/p>\n
