Designing a room for your child is both a fun and unforgettable project that not only presents a chance for you to unleash your creativity, but also to\u00a0 spend\u00a0 great quality time\u00a0 with your\u00a0 child. To put your best foot forward, read on for some pointers and tips on how to create\u00a0 a merry, safe yet practical bedroom for your children.<\/p>\n

Before you pick up those paint brushes or invest in new d\u00e9cor for your child’s room, talk to your child first to determine what kind of theme to develop, activities she\/he would like included in their bedroom and\u00a0 their favourite colour. Colours play an important role in a child\u2019s room. People often associate colours as highlighting children’s genders, but a child’s bedroom is a blank canvas that gives parents the option to play with more than one colour and to let their imagination run wild.<\/p>\n

There is no need to have Ben10 or Hello Kitty permanently etched on your child\u2019s wall. The creative use of colour is good enough to create a lovely child\u2019s room.<\/p>\n

Many parents make the mistake of making their children’s bedroom overly child-like and whimsical.\u00a0 Colour is flexible and as a decor element is effective in creating age-appropriate looks for children of all ages. Wallpaper is another alternative that can be utilized effectively for children’s’ rooms.<\/p>\n

Another important consideration is safety. Use non-toxic paints on walls and furniture, and when making furniture choices avoid glass and objects with sharp edges or corners.<\/p>\n

Choose beds that are sturdy and durable because young children can be extremely lively and like to jump around in bed. If your child is prone to allergies, avoid the use of carpeting\u00a0 in rooms. They will gather dust and might be a problem for children who have asthma or any respitory allergies.<\/p>\n

Storage is always important, so plan what goes where and where to place organisational pieces such as a tall chest of drawers, shelving and cabinets. etc., and decide what will go where.<\/p>\n

Make sure children\u2019s rooms have sufficient light. A desk lamp is necessary for activity areas where homework and craftwork will be done. And of course, don\u2019t forget the ever-important night-lights.<\/p>\n

Finally, there should be no locks in the rooms. If your child has his\/her own bathroom, ensure it cannot be locked.<\/p>\n

Do not force your own opinions and tastes on your child. It would be much more productive in the long run if your children can start expressing their own individual thoughts about how they want their room to look like, instead of mimicking yours. Change the d\u00e9cor of your child’s room every three to five years because as children grow, their tastes change.<\/p>\n

Kids are kids, after all, and designing their spaces with fun, safety and practicalities will make these spaces perfect for them to sleep, play and spend time. These are added values to the children\u2019s spaces as well as being visual interesting.. Remember, the best way to keep children home is to make the home atmosphere pleasant!<\/p>\n
