But before the new year starts, we still need to make it through the holidays, often celebrated with family, friends and less-than-healthy foods.<\/p>\n<p>According to the global marketing research firm, Nielsen, meat tops the list of categories of Americans \u00a0where men aim to eat better over the holidays, while women plan to look at the dessert category to make healthier decisions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-36066\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/food-beverage-categories-men-and-women-eat-healthier-holidays.png\" alt=\"food-beverage-categories-men-and-women-eat-healthier-holidays\" width=\"1000\" height=\"956\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/food-beverage-categories-men-and-women-eat-healthier-holidays.png 1000w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/food-beverage-categories-men-and-women-eat-healthier-holidays-150x143.png 150w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/food-beverage-categories-men-and-women-eat-healthier-holidays-300x287.png 300w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/food-beverage-categories-men-and-women-eat-healthier-holidays-768x734.png 768w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/food-beverage-categories-men-and-women-eat-healthier-holidays-696x665.png 696w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/food-beverage-categories-men-and-women-eat-healthier-holidays-439x420.png 439w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some Americans plan to spend more this year on alcoholic beverages (30%), at restaurants (29%), in bars\/pubs\/taverns (27%) and on ready to eat meals (25%). But even more Americans say they\u2019ll hold back from temptation and are not planning to spend extra money eating and drinking out over the holiday season.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-36067\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/holiday-consumer-spending-alcohol-restaurants-bars-meals.png\" alt=\"holiday-consumer-spending-alcohol-restaurants-bars-meals\" width=\"1000\" height=\"891\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/holiday-consumer-spending-alcohol-restaurants-bars-meals.png 1000w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/holiday-consumer-spending-alcohol-restaurants-bars-meals-150x134.png 150w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/holiday-consumer-spending-alcohol-restaurants-bars-meals-300x267.png 300w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/holiday-consumer-spending-alcohol-restaurants-bars-meals-768x684.png 768w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/holiday-consumer-spending-alcohol-restaurants-bars-meals-696x620.png 696w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/holiday-consumer-spending-alcohol-restaurants-bars-meals-471x420.png 471w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While approximately half of consumers do not plan to spend more eating out during the holidays, it does not necessarily mean they\u2019ll be making healthier choices at home. When compared to the average week throughout the year, consumers index lower across food labels that are perceived as healthier options\u2014i.e., fat free, low fat, saturated fat and sugar free\u2014meaning that they spend less on these items during the holiday period compared to the average week.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-36068\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/health-and-wellness-label-claims-during-holiday.png\" alt=\"health-and-wellness-label-claims-during-holiday\" width=\"1000\" height=\"956\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/health-and-wellness-label-claims-during-holiday.png 1000w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/health-and-wellness-label-claims-during-holiday-150x143.png 150w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/health-and-wellness-label-claims-during-holiday-300x287.png 300w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/health-and-wellness-label-claims-during-holiday-768x734.png 768w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/health-and-wellness-label-claims-during-holiday-696x665.png 696w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/health-and-wellness-label-claims-during-holiday-439x420.png 439w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So while many consumers want to eat healthier, they are not necessarily making choices to support that during the festive holiday season. However, that doesn\u2019t mean they will continue on their indulgence streak in 2017, with 59% planning to get their habits back on track and eat healthier in the New Year.
