Not all vitamins and supplements are as healthy as they claim to be. Many multi-vitamins, individual supplements and protein products today, whether in capsule, tablet, chewable<\/span>, liquid or powder form, consistently contain more than 50 percent fillers<\/strong>, which are manmade<\/span> chemicals added to products and contain zero nutritional value. These damaging fillers include artificial colors, hydrogenated oils, lead, mercury, PCBs<\/span>, Magnesium Silicate, and Titanium Dioxide.<\/p>\n

Studies have shown these fillers can cause a variety of medical and cognitive issues for those who consume them including cancers, cognitive disabilities and even death.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Vitamins, which are meant to help the body, can cause significant harm, and the industry refuses to change. Vitamins and supplements are a billion dollar industry for the companies that produce them. Fillers serve several negative purposes. Designed to bind chewable<\/span> products from falling apart while all add imitation flavorings to mask the raw taste of the vitamins. Some fillers like tartrazine<\/span><\/strong>, also known as FD&C Yellow #5 or E102, give vitamins their color. Tartrazine<\/span>, and many other artificial colorings, are made from coal tar and have been linked to asthma, migraines, thyroid cancer, anxiety, clinical depression, blurred vision, purple spots on the skin, and unexplainable itchy skin.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the most damaging fillers is sodium benzoate<\/span><\/strong>, which is a widely used food preservative used to make vitamins have a longer shelf-life. But sodiumbenzoate<\/span> combined with vitamin C forms benzene, a cancer-causing chemical associated with leukemia and other blood cancers<\/strong>. Parkinson’s,neuro<\/span>–degenerative<\/span> diseases, and premature aging have all been attributed to this infamous preservative. Fillers labeled natural additive\u201d include shellac and carmine. Shellac<\/strong> is used in gummies<\/span> and chewable<\/span><\/strong> to give it that shiny surface but it\u2019s also utilized to give furniture and guitars a special shine, hardly a substance that should be consumed. It is derived from the\u00a0excretions of the kerria<\/span> lacca<\/span> insect<\/strong>, most commonly found in the forests of Thailand.<\/p>\n

Carmine<\/strong> can also be identified on food labels as crimson lake, cochineal, natural red 4, C.I. 75470 or E120. This filler is made from ground-up cochineal insects<\/strong>, which is really just mashed red beetles. A number of manufacturers have resorted to labeling it not as carmine, but instead as “natural color,” thereby guaranteeing that most consumers will really never know if they are eating these insects.<\/p>\n
