More than 100 million passengers flew through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in 2015, making the US hub the world’s busiest airport for the 19th consecutive year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the latest report from the Montreal-based Airports Council International, passenger traffic to the Atlanta airport grew nearly six percent in 2015, shattering previously held travel records.<\/p>\n

In addition to being the primary hub for Delta Air Lines, Hartsfield-Jackson benefits from its strategic location as a major connecting hub and port of entry into North America: The airport is within a two-hour flight of 80 percent of the US population.<\/p>\n

It serves 150 US destinations and 75 international destinations in 50 countries and sees more than 250,000 flyers pass through its halls daily.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, China’s Beijing Capital International Airport has been steadily closing the gap, recording a 4 percent growth in passenger traffic last year for a total of 89.9 million travelers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dubai International Airport also leapfrogged from sixth to third spot<\/strong>, recording an 11 percent spike in passenger traffic in 2015 and stripping London’s Heathrow Airport as the new titleholder for the world’s busiest airport for international travelers.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the top five spots on the index is Chicago O’Hare and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fastest growing airport was Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport which recorded a 16 percent growth in passenger traffic compared to the year previous.<\/p>\n

The results also reveal that air travel is on the rise, with a growth of more than 6 percent recorded in total passenger traffic in 2015 compared to 2014. Likewise, the percentage of total international passengers grew more than 6 percent last year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The report looked at traffic records for 1,144 airports around the world.<\/p>\n
