Make More for Even Better Results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re now in the month of April, which means for many, three months in to any New Year&#8217;s resolutions. However if you decided to take them on one by one, and only now feel ready to embark on your next New Year life change, you&#8217;ve sold yourself short according to researchers at UC Santa Barbara.<\/p>\n<p>In their study, published this week in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/journal.frontiersin.org\/article\/10.3389\/fnhum.2016.00117\/full\" target=\"_blank\">Frontiers in Human Neuroscience<\/a>, the University&#8217;s researchers suggest that when it comes to making positive changes in our lives, we don&#8217;t take on enough changes at once.<\/p>\n<p>In their six-week study, the team recruited 31 college students to take part, with 15 participating in an intensive lifestyle change program, and 16 in a control group.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_17163\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17163\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Yoga-Poses-for-Recovery-Camel-Pose-600x440.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17163\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Yoga-Poses-for-Recovery-Camel-Pose-600x440.jpg\" alt=\"Image: addiction.com\" width=\"600\" height=\"440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Yoga-Poses-for-Recovery-Camel-Pose-600x440.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Yoga-Poses-for-Recovery-Camel-Pose-600x440-150x110.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Yoga-Poses-for-Recovery-Camel-Pose-600x440-300x220.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Yoga-Poses-for-Recovery-Camel-Pose-600x440-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Yoga-Poses-for-Recovery-Camel-Pose-600x440-573x420.jpg 573w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-17163\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: addiction.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Those in the lifestyle change program spent five hours a day every weekday over the six-week period on changing their lives for the better.<strong> This included participating in 2.5 hours of physical exercise, including yoga and Pilates; one hour of mindfulness practice; and 1.5 hours of a lecture or discussion on health and well-being topics such as sleep, nutrition, exercise, mindfulness, compassion, and relationships.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In addition participants also cut back on alcohol, to just one drink a day, slept for 8-10 hours a day, and ate a nutritious whole food diet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/healthy-diet.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11769\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/healthy-diet.jpg\" alt=\"healthy-diet\" width=\"1280\" height=\"836\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/healthy-diet.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/healthy-diet-150x98.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/healthy-diet-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/healthy-diet-1024x669.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/healthy-diet-696x455.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.pamper.my\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/healthy-diet-643x420.jpg 643w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The team tested the participants on a variety of factors during the study to check their progress, including their physical fitness, cholesterol levels, memory capacity and cognitive function.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The results showed that participants made significant progress in more than a dozen different areas, including strength, endurance, flexibility, focus, mood, self-esteem, mindfulness and life satisfaction, with this progress seen not only during their training, but even six weeks after taking part in the intervention.<\/strong> Many of the results were also greater than those seen in previous studies which looked at changing only one thing.<\/p>\n<p>Lead author of the study Michael Mrazek believes that the study produced such positive results as making more than one change at a time actually helped rather than hindered progress, <strong>&#8220;Recent research suggests its often more effective to make two or more changes simultaneously, especially when those changes reinforce one another.
