In the study, participants who wore headphones that played a loud noise while they ate snacks &#8212; which masked the sound of chewing &#8212; ate more than\u00a0participants wearing headphones that played a quiet noise,\u00a0consuming 4 pretzels compared to the &#8220;quiet group&#8217;s&#8221; 2.75 pretzels.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the results co-author Ryan Elder said, &#8220;The effects many not seem huge &#8212; one less pretzel &#8212; but over the course of a week, month, or year, it could really add up.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>From the results the team suggest <strong>being more mindful your food, not only how it tastes and looks, but also the sound of it, so switching off the TV or turning down loud music could help people to focus more on their food and eating, and in turn eat less.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sound is typically labeled as the forgotten food sense,&#8221; added Elder, &#8220;But if people are more focused on the sound the food makes, it could reduce consumption.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The study is published in the journal\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0950329316300271\" target=\"_blank\">Food Quality and Preference<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; Cover\u00a0Image: berkeleywellness.com<\/em><br \/>\n<em>&#8211; Source: AFP Relaxnews<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>US researchers have found that hearing the noise of food while you&#8217;re eating can significantly affect how much you eat.
