It&#8217;s also known as Lantern Festival as in\u00a0the ancient China, all the houses and streets were brightly decorated with lights and red lanterns\u00a0during the\u00a0Chap Goh Meh evening. In the ancient times, the Chinese single and young ladies were not allowed to go out at night except for Chap Goh Meh. The\u00a0single ladies\u00a0would dress\u00a0to the nines for the\u00a0day, stroll the streets accompanied by a chaperon, and\u00a0toss\u00a0mandarin oranges into the sea or river as a gesture of hope to find a good husband. Meanwhile young men who look\u00a0for a wife would row a boat and try to pick up\u00a0the mandarin oranges that thrown by the ladies they admire.<\/p>\n<p>Over the centuries, the celebrations of Chap Goh Meh\u00a0have\u00a0seen a lot of changes\u00a0in today&#8217;s modern\u00a0society, but the tradition of tossing mandarin oranges is\u00a0still kept alive with the festival. Nowadays we can find many &#8220;mandarin oranges\u00a0tossing&#8221;\u00a0events in Malaysia organizing by local organisations or associations on the night of Chap Goh Meh\u00a0which open to young unmarried men and women. These items symbolize\u00a0different meanings\u00a0in Hokkien dialect &#8211; Apple (<em>Ping Kor<\/em>)\u00a0for Good Wife (<em>Ho Bor<\/em>), <em>Stone <\/em>(<em>Chio Tau<\/em>) for Bungalow (<em>Ang Mo Lau<\/em>) and Banana (<em>Keng Chio<\/em>) for &#8220;Winning Lottery&#8221; (<em>Tio Beh Pio<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>For those who\u00a0wish to take part in the tossing activity, you can visit the following spots to join the crowd for the fun of tossing as a way to wrap up\u00a0the celebration of Chinese New Year in 2016.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>1.
