How many of you struggle with keeping your lipstick on all night? This was an ongoing battle of mine throughout the holiday season.<\/p>\n

It was frustrating for one because I spent time on making sure I had that perfect look, only to have my lipstick fade at every chance I had a look in the mirror.\u00a0\u00a0During a conversation with one of my friends, she gave me a few tips that would help lipstick stay on longer. I couldn’t help but notice she hadn’t re-applied a single time during the entire night, so let me in on the secret!<\/p>\n

I went home and immediately gave her tips a try for my next night out, and it worked! I was so excited I immediately texted her to thank her for that nugget of gold and asked if it was okay to share it with our readers. Thankfully she said yes.<\/p>\n

Ladies, here’s what I’ve learned, and try this. Let us know if it works for you!<\/p>\n

Step 1: Prep your lips<\/h3>\n

This is an essential step, just like how you prime your face and eyes before applying any makeup. Your lips are just another part of the face to prep. How? Exfoliate with sugar scrub, or any scrub to get rid of all that flakey dry skin that we hate so much. Resist the urge to bite that dry skin away.<\/p>\n

Apply lip balm after (or vaseline) and here’s the trick. I usually apply it right before I swipe on my lipstick, but my friend taught me this wasn’t going to do any favours. You need to apply the lip balm and let it seep into your lips well before you apply your lip colour. This gives your lips times to absorb the goodness and makes it soft and plump – ready for that colour!<\/p>\n

Step 2: Line your lips<\/h3>\n

Once you’ve got your lips moisturised and ready, line them in a shade that’s similar to your lip colour. This also helps keep your lip colour within the lines. Also use your lip pencil to fill in your lips. Once you’ve done this, dab on a little powder (ka-ching!).<\/p>\n

Step 3: Fill your lips with colour<\/h3>\n

Apply your colour atop your lined and powdered lips. The powder helps keep your colour on longer. Add powder again and then apply a second coat (you can reapply coats as many times as you like) but I go for a max of 3 coats.<\/p>\n

For best results, use loose powder which you apply with your finger tip (not compact powder). You can also use powder foundation if you want, but it’s no necessary.<\/p>\n

I never knew powder would work the way it did but I’m glad she told me about it. It also gives you a finished matte look (if you’re into that).<\/p>\n
