Miss Grand Malaysia Jasebel Robert<\/strong>\u00a0will represent our country on the stage of Miss Grand International 2020 competition in Bangkok, Thailand in a national costume – the Mak Yong costume<\/strong> – designed by Kelantan-born\u00a0Ain Mohamad<\/strong> whose inspiration of the costume is an adaption from the late Mak Yong primadonna, Khatijah Awang.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Mak Yong is an ancient traditional theatrical dance performed for entertainment and healing ceremonies mainly in Kelantan and was declared by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2005.<\/p>\n

This stunning national costume, called Mak Yong<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Legend of Khatijah Awang<\/strong>, is made of yellow\u00a0silk ornamented with golden embroidery\u00a0and sophisticatedly decorated with diamond brooches and tambour beading of sequin and beads.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u201cI take this opportunity to be a great ambassador for our country Malaysia, and by wearing the Mak Yong costume is the best representation to continue to promote this dying culture especially amongst younger generation,\u201d said Jasebel Robert, Miss Grand Malaysia 2020.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Before her departure to Thailand, Jasebel alongside with Miss Grand Malaysia Organization team was given the blessing by YB Dato Sri Hajjah Nancy Shukri, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia who extended her best wishes to Jasebel.<\/p>\n

Jasebel Robert\u00a0will be competing with representatives from 62 countries at the\u00a0Miss Grand International 2020 competition. The national costume competition will be held on March 24 with preliminary competition on March 25 before culminating to the final event on March 27 at Bangkok\u2019s SHOW DC Mall and Entertainment Hall.<\/p>\n
