Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations Go Online Tonight

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will organise the first-ever online “Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations” on 31 December 2020 night to usher in 2021 with people worldwide. While there will not be a physical countdown event as in previous years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the HKTB will launch and stream a spectacular video, inviting everyone to join the countdown on their mobile phones or computers and welcome a better new year with others in the online world.

At 11:00pm on 31 December 2020 (HKT), the HKTB’s official website and YouTube channel will begin showing a live countdown clock, whereas its Facebook page will start doing so at 11:30pm (HKT). All are welcome to join the countdown on any of these platforms.

Once the clock strikes midnight (HKT), an around two-minute video will be shown on the above three platforms, featuring fireworks above Hong Kong’s iconic Victoria Harbour and landmarks on the harbourfront. Greetings have also been added to the video to enrich the visual effects, complemented by lively electronic music and senses-awakening orchestral music to cheer for the world.

Wishing everyone a Happy and safe New Year!
