Celebrate Independence Month with these Merdeka and Malaysia Day-themed Activities

Malaysia will be celebrating its 64th Merdeka Day on August 31 and Malaysia Day on September 16, respectively. Although Malaysia continues to struggle with the impact of the pandemic, it shall not stop us from celebrating our country’s independence! We have compiled below a list of of Merdeka and Malaysia Day-themed activities that open for all Malaysians – to uplift the joy of the Independence Month’s celebrations, and to invoke the spirit of patriotism in you!

1#MalaysiaDiHatiku Campaign by Samsung Malaysia Electronics

Samsung is calling on Malaysians to take part in #MalaysiaDiHatiku campaign on TikTok. Participants just need to record themselves singing alongside the artists in the duet singing hashtag challenge for the Malaysia Di Hatiku song features the musical talents of hip-hop artist Yonnyboii, Tabby from rising girl group Dolla and duo-rappers Kmy Kmo and Luca Sikta. When ready, they can caption their video with words of encouragement to other fellow Malaysians, include the hashtags #MalaysiaDiHatiku and #SamsungMalaysia and submit their video on TikTok from now till 2 September 2021.

The top three creative content that captures the spirit of Malaysia Di Hatiku will win one brand new Samsung Galaxy A32 each. The winners will be announced at the end of the campaign, which falls on Malaysia Day, 16 September 2021.

3#MalaysiaPrihatin Tiktok Contest

From 24th August until 16th September 2021, the Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia (JaPen) is inviting all Malaysians from the age of 7-50 are encouraged to submit their creative original videos of being uniquely Malaysian, accompanied by the nostalgic “Saya Anak Malaysia” tune made popular by Dr Sam and Musafir, to be in the running to win some of these exciting rewards.

To participate in the #MalaysiaPrihatin challenge, just follow these simple steps:

  • Follow @JapenTV on TikTok
  • Create original videos that reflects all things Malaysian (food, dance, make up, phrases, traditions are some examples)
  • Use the ‘Saya Anak Malaysia‘ song on TikTok (compulsory, different versions accepted)
  • Include the hashtag #MalaysiaPrihatin & tag @japentv in the caption
  • TikTok videos can either be in English or Malay

JaPen is giving away a total of RM7,300 to 11 lucky creators from the contest in two categories – which are the Open Category and the Most-Likes Category. The creators will receive an in-app notification on TikTok when the winners are announced on 24 September 2021.

6Coway Run 2021: Run for Your Region

Kicking off on 23 September until 23 October 2021, Coway Run 2021: Run for Your Region is the first inter-regional virtual run that combines fun, healthy living, and community spirit in one exciting event. This a month-long run allows participants to run anytime and anywhere — as long as they keep their feet moving to log in those kilometres.

Being an inter-regional event, this year’s run will see participants teaming up by region (Northern, Central, Southern, East Coast and East Malaysia) for a friendly nationwide competition. Within their teams, runners are encouraged to rack up as many kilometres as they can — the team with the highest average distance per person will be crowned as the overall winner.

The run is open to all Malaysian citizens or residents aged 16 and above, and participants must register online at the Coway Run 2021 website before 23 October 2021 – ticket rate starts from RM39 per head! The first batch of 10,000 tickets had been quickly snapped up within 24 hours of launch on 21 August, but fret not as additional tickets to the event will be available soon.

To automatically record the distance covered during the run, participants can make use of the free app Strava and sync it to their Coway Run profile. Alternatively, they may also manually upload screenshots of their logs in other running or fitness apps suggested in the Coway Run website, to show their KM achieved in their Coway Run account.

7vivo’s “Malaysia V Boleh” Photography Contest

vivo Malaysia has kicked off a “Malaysia V Boleh” Photography Contest on Facebook and Instagram, from now until 30 August 2021 to encourage fellow Malaysians to participate and shout out their love for the country in creative ways!

Publics are invited to share their nationalism virtually through images to stand a chance to win a vivo Y20s G smartphone and other exciting gifts such as the vivo Wireless Sport Lite, robot vacuum and Rever gift box.

Themed “Merdeka”, participants are required to upload their creative photos to their Facebook or Instagram account together with the hashtags #MalaysiaVBoleh and #vivoMalaysia, and tag vivo Malaysia on Facebook and Instagram. The winners’ announcement will be made on 31 August 2021.

In conjunction with Malaysia’s 64th National Day celebration, Tourism Selangor comes up with a 1-day travel itinerary on heritage trail to Kuala Selangor and Klang Districts – the homes to various historical remains that are crucial for learning.

For Kuala Selangor District, after receiving the consent of DYMM Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, Kuala Selangor District Council has now been officially declared as Kuala Selangor Municipal Council. So, together with Klang District, these are two of the most suitable destinations to visit to live up the spirit of patriotism.
