COS Redefines The Classics for Autumn Winter 2020 Collection

The COS Autumn Winter 2020 collection explores our environment, both natural and human-made, whilst harnessing technology to create an awareness of time. Innovative properties and traditional techniques merge to form a collection of redefined classics, devoted to lasting style and longevity.

Rethinking the origin of materials, the season presents an exploration of responsibly sourced fabrics, paying special attention to reusing, repurposing and recycling. Plastic from our oceans is given a second life, bottles and fishing nets are spun into a smooth yarn and fused with raw linens and organic paper fibres, exceeding the boundaries of fabrication.

The season’s palette presents an intriguing mix of muted neutral colours. Cream, beige and tonal shades of grey build the foundation for the collection, contrasted with electric blue, warm orange, faded primrose and pine green.

For womenswear, the season’s inspirations translate into tailored fluidity, epitomised by classic suiting, juxtaposed with organically draped skirts. Necklines and shoulders are given asymmetric twists, creating new unexpected forms in rich and varied textures. Innovation is realised in a temperature-sensitive fabric, which transforms into abstract patterns in cold weather.

Architecture and perspective continue to inspire clean, modernist lines in menswear, where traditional and contemporary values are applied to the classic white shirt. Styled with a transparent, recycled nylon overshirt in a bright orange hue, a wash of colour breathes new life into the modern wardrobe. A tailored transitional coat in wool and recycled nylon sits loosely on the body whilst utility pockets and considered hardware offer function throughout. A leather sweatshirt in faded primrose and an oversized rough wool coat create enlarged proportions whilst drawstrings add a new athletic element to cord trousers.

The core collection is complemented by a range of eclectic and unexpected accessories. Zero-waste folding techniques are applied to versatile leather bags whilst other leather accessories introduce padding and protective qualities, finished with durable, recycled rope. Recycled nylon is used to create lightweight pouches, clean and minimal in design. Classic boots are revisited in chrome-free leather and translucent menswear soles give them a distinctive look. Recycled silver and quartz form a collection of classic jewellery, reinvented in soft yet bold styles.
