There has been so much excitement around New York Fashion Week and while that’s taking place on the other side of the world, we can still get in on the action through news reports, fashion updates, blog posts, snapchat, Instagram, you get the idea.

Sometimes though, we don’t really understand how we can take something from the runway and into our own everyday styles.

We were really excited when we came across a few tips that Brit + Co have shared, based on the trends and style hacks they have spotted at the New York Fashion Week this year, and we can’t wait to share them with you! Some of the tips are relevant for those who are going through Winter right now (layers, heavy coats) but we’ve pulled out the ones that would apply in any weather situation.

These little hacks will help you look on-trend and will update your style in a heartbeat.

1. Wear your wrist cuff on the outside of your clothing – not under or inside

Forget about having to roll-up your sleeves, just wear the cuff over your clothing.

2. Monochromatic is not just Black and White

Throw other colours into the mix like shocking yellow and fiery orange, you don’t need to only play with the safe colours (black, white, gray, pastel colours).

3. The turtleneck is making a comeback

But rather than just wear it on its own, pair it under frilly feminine blouses and dresses. This adds a visual dimension and a little bit of intrigue to any outfit.

4. Balance your look with bold accessories

Spring 2016 collection is all about embracing your ultra femme side with feminine pieces and edgy modern elements like bold belts and statement jewellery. Mix it up and create a little bit of balance between frilly and feminine, and body and edgy.

5. Pair metallics and suedes

Jill Stuart has paired these two materials together to reach new heights in the fashion/style department. Silvery blouses give the softer suede clothing that little bit of disco glam that could be so hot right now.

6. Layering with leather? Use it as a base piece

Traditionally we’re used to seeing leather clothing being worn as outer wear and often as a statement piece, but flip your perspective and wear it under an everyday button down or a famine dress and this fashion-forward twist will totally add some edge.

7. Add a vest over your dress

Wearing a flowy boho dress? How about adding a vest over it to help streamline your entire look. It’ll add some structure and sleekness.

8. Bring back white tights

I can’t remember wearing a pair of white tights since… well maybe since I was a little girl. But Custo Barcelona recently made a case for its comeback. Style with sophisticated separates in neutral hues, chic sunnies, white tights can look so right. After all, black tights can get a little boring eh?
