On Sunday, 21 February 2016, over 400 Malaysians woke at the crack of dawn to eagerly bring themselves, (against all odds, because we know many of you prefer to sleep in on Sundays), to the Stadium Sukan Negara in Bukit Kiara.

Why would anyone do that on a Sunday? Well because Joe De Sena, CEO and Co-Founder of Spartan Races, ran a Mass Workout to help Spartans with their training. Spartan Races are a big deal and they are the global leader for obstacle course races in over 30 countries! The upcoming Reebok Spartan Race Super Malaysia 2016 is taking place on 20th March and it’s called The Battle on the Black River.

Good job on surviving the tough workout!

For those of you who know Joe, the session was incredibly gruelling and he did NOT give participants an easy pass. We like to think this is why so many people look up to him, because with discipline and focus, and with pushing your mental and physical limits, you can get into incredible shape and basically feel like you can take on the world.

It was unrelenting, and as a spectator covering the event I felt pretty awful when I would sneak around the field snapping photos of those suffering. I attempted to cheer them on but figured, I really don’t know what sort of physical pain they are in and should probably stop.

Their rigorous and intense workout included burpees, planks, squats, and a whole lot of other high intensity exercises! We got to say though, good job on the work out!

Also present at the Mass Workout was a team from FitAID, the Official Recovery Drink partner for Spartan Race Malaysia 2016. If you haven’t already heard of the drink, FitAID is an all-natural beverage that enhances performance and post-workout recovery of athletes, gym-goers, advocates of a healthy lifestyle, and the fitness community alike.

FitAID was onsite and prepared with ice-cold cans to help the participants with their post-workout recovery. The booth was abuzz with many taking a keen interest into the product and they even had special guests like Joe De Sena himself stop by, and Linora Low, Fitness Personality.
