Jet lag is no stranger to travelers and there it sure makes you feel awful. All the jumping from one time to another between time zones always making me extremely stressful on my body.

While there is no instant pill to “reset” your body, there are number of ways to minimize the time to recover from jet lag. After all, you got to make the most out of your travel time. Here are my 5 tips to combat jet lag.

1. Sleep on the plane

Sleeping on a place can get a little uncomfortable due to noises from the surroundings, but if you are able to catch some sleep, it will really help your jet lag. I wear eye masks and earplugs to block out the light and noises for the best sleep. Just make sure that you are sleeping when it is night time in your destination.

2. Drink lots of water

The cabin air pressure is dehydrating hence always remember to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water. Stay away from coffee, sugary juice, and alcohol because these drinks will dehydrate you more and make your jet lag more suffering. Go for a green or mint tea instead if you want to have that extra caffeine boost.

3. Go Outside

Being exposed to the sunlight can trick your body to “reseting” into the new time zone. When I arrive at my destination during the day, I tried to get as much light exposure as I can by going out for a stroll or just chilling by the pool. This is because when I am out I tend to forget how tired I am.

4. Walk around plane

Remember to walk around some during the flight, or at least move your legs. This is to prevent blood clots and swelling of the feet.

5. Light on the food

It is inevitable to get incredibly hungry on long flight. Nonetheless try to avoid eating too much no matter how hungry you are. This is because heavy meals will keep you from getting that much-needed rest. Personally I like going to the supermarket and buy some healthy snacks like fruit or nuts to snack on during the flight.
