In November, Vivo released their latest addition to the Vivo family, the V5, in Malaysia. Branded as the company’s latest flagship device, the V5 is marketed as a selfie centric smartphone.

Flashback to the launch of V5, the camera’s specs and features were highlighted numerous times. The main focus of the V5 is its 20 MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture as well as a soft light for improved low-light performance while the company boasted a rear 13MP shooter with phase detection autofocus and LED flash.

We recently got our hands on this smartphone and tested out its true quality and we must say the V5 selfie camera had impressed us. Read more to find out why.

Design

Design-wise, the V5 comes with a full metal body in Crown Gold. On the back of the phone, the V5 has a strong iPhone 6 influence, while the front could easily be passed off as OnePlus 3 smartphone. However this works to the V5’s benefit as it’s one of the prettiest smartphone in the market today.

vivo-v5-pamper-my-4vivo-v5-pamper-my-88Protected with Corning Gorilla Glass, the phone is very light and slim. The fingerprint sensor works wonders, incredibly quick and accurate; you can even lock apps in addition to locking the smartphone.

Camera

Now the fun part, the V5’s front camera performance is absolutely superb. No matter the lighting, the device’s front shooter manages to capture high quality selfies flawlessly. As for its 13MP rear camera, it works great but slows down in terms of quality in low light settings.

Vivo V5 is packed with a octa-core MediaTek MT6750 SoC and coupled with a massive 4GB RAM to its 32GB internal storage. Yes, this guarantees a smooth Android experience without any lags as we did not encounter any performance issues while using powerful apps.

This smartphone runs on The device also comes with the typical features such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, USB OTG, GPS, FM radio and more.

Unlike most Android phones, the app switcher is accessed with a swipe up from the bottom of the page. This is one out of many confusion new Vivo users will encounter while using the smartphone.

Verdict

To sum it up, the Vivo V5 is an “alright” phone, if you are constantly updating Snapchat and Insta Stories. Although the selfie camera is astonishing there were many other flaws such as the poor quality of the front camera, confusing layout and many other oversights. Besides if your DSLR ran out of battery and you need to take pictures, the V5 may not be a good substitute.
