Kaia Gerber Is Designing A Capsule Collection For Karl Lagerfeld

Barely three months after she made her catwalk debut at New York Fashion Week, rising star Kaia Gerber, daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford has landed her first gig as a designer and oh boy…it’s a big one. The 16-year-old is said to be designing a capsule collection alongside Karl Lagerfeld which will hit stores in September 2018.

“When Karl first told us his idea to collaborate with Kaia, we were all excited by the incredible potential and power of bringing their two worlds together,” Pier Paolo Righi, Chief Executive Officer of Karl Lagerfeld, told WWD.

“We have been working intensely over the last months with Kaia in L.A. and at our studio in Paris. It was exciting to see her clear vision, passion and engagement, and the collection will definitely inspire many young women,” he added.

The line will comprise around the clock ready-to-wear and accessories such as sunglasses (which Gerber is rarely seen without), jewelry and footwear; amalgamating Lagerfeld’s Parisian chic DNA and Gerber’s laid-back West Coast style.

Though not much has been revealed about the collection apart from an image of Gerber holding what seems to be a studded elbow-length leather gloves in one of her meetings with Lagerfeld’s design team, rumour has it that the collaboration will offer a fusion of California cool daywear and French girl chic for when the sun goes down.

The Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia collection is slated to launch in Fall with a series of events across Los Angeles, New York and Paris.

The collaboration is expected to garner similar response as Tommy x Gigi, a see-now-buy-now that catapulted the Hilfiger’s website traffic to 900 percent in the 48 hours following the catwalk show.
