Leggings, gotta love them right? Offering comfort and versatility, it’s so easy to see why these would be an essential to anyone’s wardrobe. But have you ever wondered, just how are you supposed to wear leggings? Is there a particular style to them? Is it okay to wear leggings that are so tight around your butt that you could feel yourself almost flaunting it?

I love them and most often times wear them with slightly longer tops. But I’ve also realised that makes me look like I’m wearing an outfit I’ll wear to bed. I did some research on the best ways to wear leggings, hoping to gain some inspiration to upping the level of style when I have leggings on, and this is what I’ve found. Because I didn’t want to lose that level of comfort, I wasn’t going to compromise on that.

1. Amp it up with a pair in leather or pleather

This automatically elevates your look into something a little more high-fashion and is perfect for transitions from day to night. Pair it with sneakers or heels, and a loose fitting top. Accessorise and you’re ready to go! Ideally find a pair in black – that’s the best look we think.

2. Street style

Pair your leggings with a graphic T and sneakers and rock the look. Simplicity at its best. I personally prefer keeping this look monochromatic.

3. Structure and layers

This is a look I never really thought of pulling off, but now that I’ve seen it, I like it! Wear a shirt with leggings and a pull-over sweater to give it that added edge. The pair of boots would be an added bonus, but given the heat we live in, sneakers are probably a better option (save the boots for times when we travel to colder countries).

4. Too short to be a dress, too long to be a top?

Well this is usually my go-to look. Leggings with a long top, those with a bit of shape to them give it a nicer look rather than over sized shapeless t-shirts. But even those look great and are comfy – so you bag a 2 in 1 look! Most experts say to avoid t-shirts that are too short, you don’t wear this with leggings unless you are on your way to a gym. Always pair it with a tunic or top that covers your butt.

5. Slightly cropped leggings

This look is great for days when you want to amp up your lazy look and pair it with a pair of sneakers and even a sweater/cardigan. I love the cropped leggings with a pair of boots too (again, great for travel).
