With the 2017 SEA Games closing ceremony coincide with the celebration of Malaysia’s 60th Independence Day and also Malaysia Day, whether you will be attending the 2017 SEA Games closing ceremony or not, those with tickets can expect more than just fireworks.

Here’s what we know so far about the 2017 SEA Games closing ceremony.

1. The SEA Games closing ceremony will not fall on the same day when Malaysia celebrates Malaysia’s 60th Independence Day on Aug 31. Instead, the closing ceremony has been moved one day earlier to Aug 30, from 8pm to 10.30pm. This is because Malaysia will be celebrating Hari Raya Haji on Sept 1.

2. The closing ceremony for SEA Games will be held in the newly-renovated Bukit Jalil National Stadium, which can accommodate up to 80,000 people.

3. There would be a full road closure today and on Aug 30 for the closing ceremony.

4. Film director Saw Teong Hin, who is also the creative director of the Games’ ceremonies, said the level of excitement would double for the closing ceremony in conjunction with the two celebrations. “Audiences will be blown away with another exciting round of colour, culture and creativity,” he told the New Straits Times in an interview.

5. Datuk M. Saravanan, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, urged spectators to use public transport, adding that there are a total of 18,000 parking bays by the various LRT stations along the line leading to Bukit Jalil. “The police will bar vehicles without valid SEA Games parking stickers to enter into the National Stadium vicinity,” he added.

6. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed his hope that the closing ceremony of the biennial games on Aug 30 would be a grand affair. “Of course the people hope that it should not only be a grand closing ceremony, but we must set aside political differences and stand together to support our athletes in all the sports categories we are competing,” he told Bernama.
