You may heard of oregano, mostly being used for pizza or pasta, but these little leaves are so much more than just an aroma addition to your dinner table.

For many years fresh oregano has been used in the Mediterranean cuisine because of its yummy aromatic flavour. More importantly, the health benefits that oregano offers are aplenty.

Here are some reasons why you should add oregano to you daily diet for better heath.

1. Strengthen your immune system. Oregano consists of rosmarinic acid, an active agent which is a powerful antioxidant that stimulates the body’s body’s defenses against colds, flu, bronchitis and sinusitis. Oregano has one of the highest antioxidant activity ratings, with 42 times the antioxidant punch of apples.

2. Combat nasal congestion. Oil of oregano helps to treat sinus infection as it is high with antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Its mucolytic properties also provide favourable results for the treatment of respiratory complaints, such as bronchitis and coughs.

3. Soothe menstrual cramps. For bad periods, oregano can be helpful. You can chew some fresh oregano leaves three times a day to reduce menstrual pain or drink a cup of warm water with a couple of drops of wild oil of oregano to take the edge off your cramps.

4. Sore throat. Cough and sore throat remedies don’t have to come from the drugstore. Simply add few drops of oregano oil in a glass of juice and drink daily.

5. Promotes intestinal balance. Having a hard time letting out in the bathroom? Mix 2 drops of oil of oregano in an eight ounce glass of water, stir then drink. Its antiseptic properties help cleanses all the bacteria from the stomach and enhances proper digestion.

6. Promotes cardiovascular health. With rich source of Vitamin K, oregano oil is an important player in cardiovascular and bone health and also being needed for keeping calcium contents from blocking the arteries.
