For many of us, we spend most of the time in our workspace. Whether it’s a home office, an ordinary cubicle or just a small space in a counter, keeping that space clean and tidy is very crucial. When our work areas are clean and tidy, it will improve our productivity on work. Here are 5 tips to keep your desk clean and tidy:

  1. Create a place for everything

Whatever things you need to use, create a place for it. Assign a specific place for everything, from photos, post it, notebook to stationary. Make sure you put it back whenever you are not using it. Thus, it can help you from losing important items.

2. Restart daily

Just like your day, make sure all the trash is taken out and everything is in its place. On top of that, if you come into work the next day to a clean office, it will help you to jumpstart your productivity before the day has even started.

3. Have a trash can within reach

If you have to get up from your desk to reach the trash, it is too far away. It will make you lazy to throw rubbish into the rubbish bin and make you put it all around. Make sure you can easily and quickly reach the trash from your chair.

4. Take your books home

Take home any books you don’t use on a regular basis for work. If you put your books on your desk without using it, it takes up the place to put the necessary things too. If you take your books home, it will leave you more space to work as well.

5. Minimise incoming paper

Stop that incoming paper flood, or at least minimise to the extent possible. Moreover, you need to eliminate unnecessary subscriptions, reduce the number of paper reports and memos. If you don’t need something in hard copy, stop it from coming to your desk. It helps to save the environment and the world too.
