In Asia, Japan and South Korea are hubs of skincare innovation. Many tourists flock to these countries to stock up on all that Japanese and Korean beauty goodness. The ingredients are cutting edge, and they tend to go for more natural ingredients. In particular, one ingredient has caught our attention: horse oil. After some Internet sleuthing, we have shortlisted some of the facts about horse oil you may not know.

1. Horse oil is in no way a new product. The history of horse oil can be traced back to 16th century where Chinese would keep this oil taken from horse mane, tail’s base and subcutaneous layer of the skin. The horse is not harmed during the process. Once the fat is extracted down to an odourless oil that is free from additives in its purest form.

2. Great for first-aid emergencies. Due to its high concentration of fatty acid, horse oil penetrates deep into the skin, and has been used to heal cuts and insect bites, and also provide intense moisture.

3. High moisturizing properties. The horse oil prevents drying of your skin and gives moisture on your dry skin.

4. Packed with antibacterial properties that help fight against the bacteria that causes acne as well as skin infections.

5. Collagen synthesis. Thanks to a study from the Keimyung University School of Medicine, researchers have found that horse oil has anti-inflammatory properties and stimulate type 1 collagen production in the skin.

6. It’s extremely popular in Asia. Now one of the top selling beauty products in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China, horse oil is used to improve skin elasticity, wrinkles, acne, sunburn, and eczema.
