Blush is a powerful tool, it can make highlight your cheekbones, make you appear more flushed and healthier, and dewy. Add a little bit of blush to a blank canvas, and it brightens you instantly! But there are confusions when it comes to applying blush and we hope to help clear those out for you.

1. Apply blush according to your face shape. There are different hot spots to apply blush depending on your face structure and shape, since blush affects how your cheekbones look. Here are a few guides based on face shape from goodhousekeeping.com.

2. Blot blush into your face with tissue. Many are quick to assume powder is the best way to set makeup, and while this is true, you should always blot your blush with a tissue first.

3. Pick the right shade. Your skin tone affects which shade of blush you should use, some just don’t work on all skin tones as you should use colors that will flatter and highlight your face. Also from goodhousekeeping.com, check out this guide for the right shade.

4. Choose the right type of blush. Powder blush is great for people with large pores, while creams deliver a dewy finish and have high staying power. Gel blushes are a great choice for summer since they add a gorgeous glow without being greasy, whereas stains look dewy and last for ages, even if you tend to sweat quite a bit.

5. Use lipstick if you’re out of blush. Ever been in a bit of a crisis where you’re in dire need of blush but don’t have any on you? Pull out your lipstick and use this as a cheek colour instead. Just make sure to blend quickly – if it’s a highly pigmented lipstick, it could set fast and look blotchy.
