Occasionally lip balms are not the best fix for dry, flaky, peeling lips. And when you apply your lipstick, those flaky and cracked areas will be even more obvious. Hence, it’s important to prep your lips with a good ol’ lip scrub to have a smooth, clean surface so your lip colour will last longer too.

Though many brands are churning out their own lip scrubs, we’re always open for a cheaper alternative.

So if you’re feeling adventurous, here are three different flavoured lip scrubs you can make for yourself or as gifts for your friends, right at home:

Honey Sugar Lip Scrub (From Hello Glow)

The simple things in life are free just like this lip scrub! You can choose to use either brown, white or raw sugar for your scrub.

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon almond oil/ coconut oil
  • Optional: add a dash of cinnamon or cayenne if you want to naturally ‘plump’ your lips

Instructions

  1. Mix everything together in a small bowl until you have a paste.
  2. Apply it to your lips with your fingertips and massage gently to slough off the dry, dead skin cells.
  3. Rinse with warm water or lick it off. Put on your lip balm and you’re done!

For the chocolate lovers, now you can give your lips the chocolate treatment too! This ‘recipe’ makes about 1/4 cup and all you need are some sugar, pure cocoa powder, olive oil, honey and some vanilla extract.

Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Cocoa Powder
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 tsp honey

Instructions

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Adjust the texture accordingly, you can add more oil if you prefer a less sticky texture.
  2. Apply a small amount of lip scrub to lips, gently rubbing in circular motions.
  3. Leave it on for about a minute before wiping it off with a wet cloth or lick it off if you’re curious.
  4. You can store the rest of the scrub in the fridge. Use once or twice a week.

If you have very dry lips, here’s one scrub that will help, and you only need 2 ingredients.
